The Brighton Seals are a USA Swimming registered team. We have a long history of developing swimmers and young athletes. Our competitive teams are in season from September to June. The Sophomore, Junior, and Senior swim teams compete monthly at sanctioned USA swim meets.

Non-Competitive Pre-Team

Our non-competitive Pre-Team program allows for kids to condition themselves and work on their endurance as well as advanced technique in an effort to advance to one of our three swim teams. This group is also great for those that do not or cannot commit to a consistent training regimen. Classes are more flexible than our three swim teams.

In order to be considered for this program, your child must be able to swim a lap of each competitive stroke: Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly.

Team Levels

Sophomore Team is for swimmers between 7 and 9 years old, who can swim multiple laps of freestyle, backstroke, breast stroke and butterfly without stopping. Swimmers placed in this group should have the ability to dive. The focus of this group is developing young motivated individuals and enhancing their ability to demonstrate their skills on the competitive level. We teach proper competitive stroke technique in an effort to improve meet performance. Swimmers in this group must demonstrate the ability to swim at levels averaging 2,000 to 2,500 yards per practice session. Sophomores practice four times a week. Our Sophomores also have one dry-land session per week in order to start developing the flexibility required for competitive swimming.

Junior Team is comprised of 9 to 12 year olds who are proficient and competitive in all four strokes. This group focuses on perfecting competitive stroke technique. A secondary but not any less important focus is the relationship between practice performance and improvement in the competitive world of swimming. Swimmers must demonstrate the ability to swim at levels averaging 4,000-4,500 yards per practice session. Our Junior team practices five times a week. Juniors have two dry-land sessions per week in order to maintain flexibility as well as work on strength and endurance.

Senior Team consists of predominantly 12 year olds and over, who have been swimming competitively for several years. All swimmers are held to a high degree of commitment to practice, self-motivation, attendance, and meet involvement. Dry-land exercises will also be used to build and maintain strength. Participants must demonstrate goal-oriented behavior and strive to reach regional level competitions. Athletes have to demonstrate hydrodynamic efficiency in all four competitive strokes. Practice requirements are six times a week. The Senior Swim team has 3 dry-land sessions per week.

Please note that all interested swimmers must participate in a tryout in order to join any level of our competitive swim programs. Placement on a team is based on each swimmer’s performance during the tryout as well as open availability on each individual team.
